Do your hands hurt?
I recently shared about the wrist pain I've been having for over a year. What I didn't share was that it's getting better. (Yay!)
Why it's getting better aligns with a counterintuitive truth:
Rest is not always the medicine.
As we explored with the feet last weekend, the body needs a Goldilocks level of stability + strength + structure --alongside-- mobility + flexibility + range of movement.
There can absolutely be too much of a good thing. Too much stability or structure can translate as rigidity. Too much mobility or range can lead to collapse or loss of support.
When I first injured my wrist, it needed rest. Acute injuries = rest.
The problem was, I got a little stuck in the rest cycle. My wrist hurt, so I'd rest it. It would start to feel better, so I'd begin using it for normal activities... and then it would hurt again. So I'd rest it! I was missing an essential component:
Ongoing rehab and healing include movement and strength work. Yes, gradually and with a therapeutic focus -- but consistent. A couple of exercises every day.
What's great about working with a specific area at a therapeutic level is it doesn't take much. Between 2-4 movements once or twice a day. Things that can be done before getting out of bed, while watching TV, or while waiting for water to boil.
On the heels of the foot workshop (lol) and the incredible feedback people have had about the relief they are experiencing in their feet, I'm thrilled to share my toolkit on keeping the hands strong and articulate.
If you have questions or want to know if this is right for you, just reply here. If you have hand/wrist pain or want to take care of your paws, I hope you'll join us.
