A Queen Never...

In a newsletter this past spring, my dear friend Kelly shared a teaching she heard years ago: A Queen Never Rushes.  Since reading it, this phrase has been my guiding mantra.

I can easily fall into the trap of rushing, which is as much an energy as it is a pace. You know the pattern... "I'll just do this one thing before I leave..." only to find myself gripping the steering wheel, late to my destination. (Do you relate?)

In the Ayurvedic system, my primary constitution is vata, or the elements of air/ether, which is naturally mobile and quick-moving energy. Basically, I already have enough "fast and quick" in my life! Ayurvedic wisdom says, "Like increases like and opposites balance." So being grounded and slow are my medicine.

On top of that, rushing is heating -- it's friction and speed. In the heat of summer, we do not need more of either. Remember... opposites balance.

And then there's the more subtle messaging. Rushing suggests a "not-enoughness." Get more, do more, go faster, there's not enough, you're not enough. It's consumerism, capitalism, reductionist B.S. It's a man-made approach to a spiritual existence. I want a life of depth and sacred connection. Rushing pulls me into lack, fear and shame. No thank you.

On the other hand... invoking benevolent Queen* energy, which to me feels calm, self-responsible, discerning, poised (as in full of grace), trusting and non-reactive, has helped me remember there is more than enough -- time, material, sacredness. I am already worthy and do not need to earn or prove anything.

If rushing, scarcity or friction is something that feels familiar to you, try it on: A Queen Never Rushes. How does it feel?

Let me know how it goes... (just hit relpy).
